7th Africa Conference on Sexual Health and Rights

The 7th Africa Conference on Sexual Health and Rights kicks off on 9th February 2016 in Accra, Ghana. The conference whose theme is Realising Demographic Dividend in Africa: The Critical Importance of Adolescents and Youth Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights, will see the attendance of high-level experts and government officials including H.E. Dr. Nana Lordina Mahama, First Lady of the Republic of Ghana and OAFLA President who is the Patron of the conference.

The conference opening will feature remarks by conference convener Dr. Uwemedimo Esiet, Goodwill Messages, keynote address by H.E. Dr. Babatunde Osotimehin, UN Under Secretary General and Executive Director of UNFPA , address and declaration of conference open by H.E. John Dramani Mahama, President of the Republic of Ghana.

The first day of the conference will begin with a plenary on demographic dividend in Africa and Agenda 2063. Dr Eliya Zulu, AFIDEP Executive Director will be a panelist in the plenary roundtable session. Other panelists include Dr. Babatunde Osotimehin, Executive Director UNFPA, Catarina Furtado, UNFPA Goodwill Ambassador and Loukman Tidjani , Benenoise Youth Activist.

Other plenary sessions scheduled in the course of the conference are:

  • Youth leadership and participation in achieving demographic dividend and Agenda 2063
  • Ensuring and inclusive agenda for demographic dividend

The conference will end with the launch of Ghana’s Initiative – Ending Child Marriage in Africa by 2020
