Event Date: 29 - 30 Oct 2015
Event Location:

MasterCard Foundation is hosting the First Young Africa Works Summit between October 29 – 30, 2015. The main objective of the event is to find practical solutions for youth employment and entrepreneurship within the agricultural sector.

The event will bring together about 300 key influencers, including youth and representatives from government, development organisations and the private sector to share perspectives and insights on effective approaches for creating economic opportunities for young men and women in agriculture.

Africa is at the cusp of its renaissance and the summit seeks to determine appropriate interventions for harnessing the continent’s growing youth population and vast arable land to create employment and sustainable livelihoods.

Dr Eliya Zulu, Executive Director, AFIDEP and Dr Grace Kumchulesi, Research Scientist, AFIDEP will be participating in the summit to learn more about ongoing and promising interventions various African countries are implementing to transform the agricultural sector and make it the bedrock of the continent’s job-creation crusade.

Lessons from the summit will inform AFIDEP’s groundbreaking demographic dividend work, which is seeking to ignite policy and investment actions to prioritise investments in transformative education and skill development to unleash the continent’s youthful population for achievement of the continent’s socioeconomic transformation agenda.

The programme also seeks to guide reforms for enhancing capacity of African economies to create ample jobs for its rapidly growing youthful working age population.
