The African Institute for Development Policy (AFIDEP) will be taking over as the lead for the Africa Integrity Indicators (AII) research project, a continental project which aims to support governments, citizens, civil society, and media in 54 African countries to understand and evaluate governance systems and identify intervention points for subsequent reform efforts. The project, which has been spearheaded by Global Integrity for 10 years—with 10 rounds of data produced as of 2022—collects and publishes data on specific governance indicators annually towards improved governance in Africa.

As Global Integrity hands over the project to AFIDEP, having jointly conducted the 10th round of data collection, the preliminary results have been published here and the final data will be published in July 2022. Any feedback on the data can be shared here.  AFIDEP will officially produce the 11th round of data with support from Global Integrity in 2023 and is eager to use the data to champion good governance on the continent.

For some key insights into the round 10 findings, a succinct blog by Global Integrity is available here.

Falling under AFIDEP’s Governance and Accountability focus area, the AII project will contribute to improved governance on the African continent, which is a prerequisite for effective, equitable and sustainable development. The project has two primary goals:

  • To generate quality, comprehensive and timely governance indicators on social, economic, political, and anti-corruption mechanisms to lay bare the status of policy implementation in regard to transparency and accountability, and social development.
  • To stimulate actions that address persisting governance challenges in Africa.
