In partnership with the Government of Kenya, National Council for Population and Development (NCPD), UNFPA and other stakeholders, AFIDEP will be exhibiting ongoing work towards reducing teenage pregnancies during this year’s World Population Day to be commemorated on Monday, 11th July, 2016. The event will be held at the Star of Hope Primary School in Viwandani, Nairobi’s Industrial Area.

Activities addressing teenage pregnancies at AFIDEP are undertaken through the Strengthening Use of Research Evidence for Adolescent and Youth Sexual and Reproductive Health (enSURE) programme. The programme seeks to increase use of evidence in decision-making processes for adolescent sexual and reproductive health (ASRH).

The theme for this year’s celebrations is Investing in Teenage Girls. For Kenya, the focus is End Teenage Pregnancies. Noting the timeliness of this theme, UNFPA has stated: “When teenage girls are empowered, when they know about their rights and are given the tools to succeed, they become agents of positive change in their communities.”

AFIDEP staff will be exhibiting at the event, mainly sharing information materials on ASRH. The team will also interacting with guests to discuss AFIDEP’s work with relation to empowerment of teenage girls to enable them harness their potential to contribute to the social and economic development of the country, as well as developing into responsible and productive young adults.
