Under the leadership of South Africa’s Department of Social Development and Statistics South Africa, we are pleased to host a webinar series in October and November, 2020, titled Demography and COVID-19 in Africa – Evidence and Policy Responses to Safeguard the Demographic Dividend. UNFPA, the British High Commission to South Africa and the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), the African Union (AU) and Africa CDC, the African Institute for Development Policy (AFIDEP), UAPS and PASA, are the other partners supporting this initiative.

Objective
The 5th and last webinar has been designed to provide a synthesis of the webinar series, highlighting key messages from the previous four webinars as they relate to the objective of the webinar series. During this webinar, we shall also collate recommendations from the participants o the policy options that South Africa and the continent can implement now and in the post-COVID-19 period in order to safeguard the potential of the demographic dividend in Africa. A closing statement of commitment by the Republic of South Africa will be made and will be forwarded to the African Union for consideration for adoption by other member states. In addition, a webinar series policy brief capturing the core issues and policy recommendations will be disseminated to all participants together with associated infographics.
