In a bid to continuously advocate for the use of evidence in policymaking in Africa, AFIDEP is currently working with the Parliament of Kenya through the Evidence for Development Programme (EVI4DEV). The programme is running workshops for Members of Parliament (MPs) in order to promote evidence use among MPs and stimulate commitment and actions that can enable increased evidence use.

To this effect, AFIDEP is currently holding a workshop with the Kenya Women Parliamentary Association (KEWOPA) at the Intercontinental Hotel in Nairobi. The conversation centres on the barriers to increased evidence use in Parliament by women parliamentarians, the sources of evidence for MPs and resources available to support women MPs to support their uptake of evidence in their work. The meeting is also discussing actions that MPs can undertake to enable increased use of evidence in Parliament, including how parliamentarians can best use M&E data for the oversight roles in parliament.

The AFIDEP team is led by Executive Director, Dr. Eliya Zulu together with Dr. Martin Atela, a Knowledge Translation Scientist.

Engagement with the Kenya Parliament has been primarily through the Parliamentary Caucus on Evidence-Informed Decision-Making (PC-EIDM) whose chairperson is Hon Dr Susan Musyoka (MP, Machakos County).
