Professor Nyovani Madise of AFIDEP joins Population Council Board of Trustees

Professor Nyovani Madise, AFIDEP's Director of Research and Development Policy appointed to serve on the Population Council Board of Trustees

Here at AFIDEP we are proud and excited with the news that Professor Nyovani Madise, our Director of Research and Development Policy has been appointed to serve at the Population Council Board of Trustees.

With a global presence in more than 50 countries, the Population Council conducts research to address critical health and development issues.

In their announcement, the council noted that having Prof. Nyovani as a trustee would add value and is a great contribution to the institution. “The Population Council is putting forth an impact-driven research agenda that is driving policy and program solutions on the ground and globally,” says Julia Bunting, Population Council President. “Dr Nyovani Madise brings a wealth of expertise and experience that closely fits our vision for the road ahead. We are overjoyed to have a female African researcher focused on research impact join our Board of Trustees.”

Nyovani is a world-class scholar and believer in Africa’s development. Her research work and experience spans the areas of sexual and reproductive health, maternal and child health, adolescent sexual and reproductive health, food and nutritional security. Her work with AFIDEP has seen her at the forefront of having research and evidence improve decision-making in these and other critical development issues.

Nyovani also sits on the advisory committees of research funders such as the Department for International Development (DFID), the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), Medical Research Council, Research Council Norway and the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO-WOTRO). She is a member of the World Health Organization’s Strategic Advisory Group for Malaria Eradication. She has previously served on the Wellcome Trust Public Health and Tropical Medicine Interview Committee, UK Commonwealth Scholarship Commission, and is a member of the Guttmacher Institute Board.
