An Assessment of Capacity Needs for Application of Research Evidence in Decision-making in the Health Sector in Kenya September, 2014

Research uptake in public policymaking processes remains sub-optimal, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa, despite the recognised importance of using research evidence in policymaking. Knowledge on how to improve research uptake to enable evidence-informed policymaking in developing countries remains inadequate. In fact, most of the knowledge in this area is drawn from research in developed countries. This report presents the results from the Kenya needs assessment. The study revealed that policymaking in Kenya recognises the importance of using research evidence decision-making but in practice, it is is curtailed by a number of challenges and constraints
